Collection: Colour Blocking
A collection of vintage items inspired by the colour blocking trend!
Colour blocking is said to originate with Piet Mondrian’s Neo-Plasticism movement, beginning in the 1920s. Mondrian’s paintings famously inspired Yves Saint Laurent to create shift dresses featuring his art style in the mid 60s. This greatly influenced what became known as Mod style in London, which utilized plenty of solid bold colour blocking in its aesthetic.
In the 1970s, Stephen Burrows used it widely in his designs and the trend continued into the 80s when it really grew legs and joined the power dressing movement.
Colour blocking can be been seen in the 40s and 50s too, though more subtle and unintentional.
Bringing it up to the 2010s, we saw a revival of the trend with designers such as Jill Sander and Gucci showing it on their runways.
