1920s Honeycomb Valentine

1920s Honeycomb Valentine

Watch out little kids, the red tulip is said to be a symbol of passionate love in ancient Persia. Who KNOWS what powers it holds these days?

There's no manufacturer's mark on this card, but it strongly resembles others of its kind which were produced in Germany between the wars. It's got two little ones cuddling up together, a blue-ribboned puppy, a brilliant bouquet of tulips and a nice inscription on the fold down base. Bright blue flowers form the border on the die-cut back plate, and a small red tissue honeycomb embellishes the base when it's folded down. Quite bold, slightly more modern colors suggest this dates at roughly the 1920s. We love it!

Base card (with printed message): There is uniform overall discoloration, but no stains or tears. The printing is readable although slightly faint. the edges show slight uniform wear all around.

Honeycomb: Bright, intact, no tears, wear or stains.

First card (tulips): The four most delicate leaf ends have creases, but are still attached and not very visibly damaged. The rest of this card is still brilliant and undamaged.
Second card (boy, girl, dog): This is the central image, and is in excellent condition. There do not appear to be any creases.
Third card (background border): This card is mostly in good shape, save for a crease at the topmost tip, and very small creases at the two outermost tips. There is a larger crease on the right side (near the girl's head) which extends down to the other side of the card but it blends with the pattern and is not that easy to see.
The back of the card has the uniform discoloration associated with age, the inscription in ink on the bottom edge, and about 1/2 inch of tape residue near the bottom right corner.
