1920s Paper Lace Heart Valentines, Set of 2

1920s Paper Lace Heart Valentines, Set of 2

Love manifests itself in unusual ways...a cherub in a chauffeur's cap, leather gloves and little more than a birthday suit? A blue bird in a nest ready to get whizzed by a flying golf ball? Sign me up!

Quantity: 2 (sold as a set).

Card 1: Slightly larger of the two, it's a fold-open heart, with a die-cut lace doily overlay, adorned with cherubs and hearts and extensive lattice-work. The interior appears to be a photographic black and white reproduction of a gardener with tools in a landscape, and the poem has friendship as the primary theme. It is uninscribed!

Card 2: A smaller, fold-open heart, with a cream colored doily overlay framing a bird (blue tit, symbol of love and faithfulness) in its nest. There's also a young, red-suited golfer, a flower, and heart with two kissing children affixed to the doily in color.
The poem inside suggests a love revealed, and has a cupid illustration. It is also uninscribed. This is a George Whitney card.

COLOR: Multicolor. The smaller card has a cream doily, the larger is white and silver.

MATERIAL: Paper, cardboard, glue.

Card 1:
Front: Best Love
Interior: (poem) With Kindest Regards...

Card 2:
Interior: (poem) Valentines have always been...
Back: Whitney Made Worcester Mass Made in USA

Card 1:
Height: 8 1/2 in. (21.6 cm)
Width: 8 in. (20.3 cm)

Card 2:
7 x 7 in. (17.8 cm x 17.8 cm)

Card 1:
Top layer (doily): Several corner creases but there don't appear to be any tears. There is a slight brown stain on the doily below the "Best Love" banner, possibly a candy stain?
Second layer: There are three small 1/4 inch tears, one on the left side, two on the right, about 3/4 of the way down the side. They're not too noticeable, though, as they're hidden by the doily.
Third layer: several tiny tip creases, but no tears to be found, and still quite sturdy.
Interior: Slight uniform yellowing due to age, but no other damage, and no inscription.
Back: Sticker residue about an inch from lower left side, a pencil mark in the centre marked "21" and a little bit of dust marking, but otherwise fine.

Card 2:
Top layer (doily): Bottom tip and top left tip are creased, no tears.
Second layer (bird image and background): Two outermost tips are creased, and the bird image shows a bit of light dirt, not too noticeable.
Interior: Un-inscribed. A couple of tiny marks, expected uniform yellowing with age, and that's it.
Back: Light pencil mark near top "2.50" but otherwise fine.
