These are beautiful little antique French beaded flower bouquets! We've dated them to approximately the 1920s. Each bouquet features tiny glass beads in an array of bright colours from coral pink, light pink, white and red, to yellow, purple and soft periwinkle blue. This would be a beautiful item to display on your vanity, coffee table or mantle piece. It would also make a lovely wedding bouquet, or as a bouquet for each of your bridesmaids!
In the late 19th and early 20th century, beaded flowers were a common replacement for fresh flowers, as fresh flowers were not readily available through the winter months in most places. The technique of French beaded flowers was developed, as glass seed beads became more readily available. It was a popular Victorian craft and the flowers were often used for funeral arrangements, or as decoration in the home so one could have a colourful array of flowers all year round. They were also made into brooches, in millinery and as hair adornments.
